MAGNESIUM OXIDE Over 700 documented studies and clinical trials have attested to the fact that magnesium oxide is truly an amazing mineral. When mixed with water and consumed, its unique properties allows it to liberate large amounts of oxygen in the gut, intestines and the colon as well as the blood. The additional oxygen in the intestinal tract encourages healthy, oxygen loving (aerobic) bacteria and at the same time helps to inhibit the growth of unhealthy bacteria and fungi (Candida Albicans). IsaFlush also helps to cleanse the colon and the intestines. According to Dr. Devon Torma, Ph.D., M.D., “Magnesium oxide's main cleansing benefits are derived from its ability to help promote hydration or the absorption of water. Once the oxygen is liberated from the magnesium oxide, it reacts with hydrogen to form water inside the intestinal tract. This oxidation and hydration process helps soften and liquefy the impacted and hardened fecal matter. The undigested and putrefying toxins and nacrotic debris that has stuck to the bowel wall blocking the absorption of nutrients, water and creating a source of toxicity is safely and gently controlled. Magnesium oxide is different from most other magnesium supplements as it is affordable, safe, gentle, and stimulates intestinal cleansing without the griping and cramping pains associated with other magnesium products. After all, magnesium oxide is mostly just oxygen and water and works incredibly well with bentonite. Just recently some magnesium laxatives have been banned in Canada, Japan, and Europe because it was proven that they may cause bowel cancer. Laxative drugs can also be addictive and do not cleanse and relieve like magnesium oxide. Even some herbal, magnesium laxatives have been banned, ones containing some form of microtoxins. (Microtoxins are mild poisons which irritate the bowel wall and as a result the body tries to rid the poisons by purging itself. This usually results in pain and cramping and can over a long period of time damage the bowel lining.) Most people living on a typical Western Diet will benefit from intestinal cleansing periodically using magnesium oxide and bentonite. This is especially true if you suffer from constipation or other problems associated with slow intestinal transit time. Overall health can be enhanced by including an intestinal cleanse using magnesium and bentonite. Good health aimed at improving organ function through detoxification will be made more gentle and tolerable by using magnesium oxide to expel the toxins more efficiently and gently. This lessens the often unavoidable “healing crisis episode” of constipation, which often accompany an aggressive cleanse. By varying the dose of IsaFlush, the individual can control the rate of cleansing and elimination for the sake of convenience and lifestyle (Always check with your physician when doing this).
“Imagine magnesium oxide being like powdered oxygen?” (Dr. Lynus Pauling, Ph.D.). By absorbing this oxygen we derive many benefits that are associated by increased oxygenation. Magnesium and Calcium are referred to as the ultimate alkalizers and magnesium is looked upon as the “vital body balancer,” as it combines with and enhances the efficacy of many minerals and is involved in both carbohydrate and protein metabolism. Magnesium is extremely important for the healthy functioning of the heart and kidneys and is necessary to help maintain the integrity of the skeletal system. Many, in fact most health professionals and many university studies have linked magnesium deficiency to heart disease and heart attacks. Sugar causes magnesium deficiency (Sugar needs magnesium to metabolize in the body therefore it is attracted to magnesium). Studies have shown that high sugar diets lead to magnesium deficiency and subsequent heart health problems. “Magnesium is a natural relaxant for the nervous system and is commonly used in clinical practice to help aid anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, and high blood pressure. This relaxing effect can also be helpful for the overexcited state of the gut's wall in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and nervous indigestion.” (JAMA June, 1997). Magnesium deficiency may be common in Western Society because our soils are deficient in many minerals, including magnesium and hence our foods will be low in nutrients such as Magnesium. The western diet is also high in protein, calcium, sugar and alcohol, all of which increase our requirement for magnesium. A dose of magnesium oxide while cleansing may be beneficial indeed. Another advantage of magnesium oxide is, that since it is consumed orally, it helps to soften the stool and cleanse the entire intestinal tract from "top to bottom". Compare this with enemas that are limited just to the lower part of the intestinal tract. Since every person is unique and different. I strive to recognize the "bioindividuality and biochemistry" of each person, therefore, the recommended dosage for a given health concern will differ greatly depending on the individual. This is especially true with magnesium oxide. One has to take into account the degree of toxicity and the rate of intestinal transit time for each person before coming up with a dosage, a dosage that is good for you. As a general rule, the first week or two should be intensive. Frequency of bowel movements might be as much as four to ten times daily at first. However, lifestyle and work commitments in most cases will demand a more gradual application of IsaFlush. When using IsaFlush always consult your physician, especially if you are considering increasing the recommended dosage a day or if you are pregnant, lactating, contemplating a new exercise program or a diet or are being treated by a physician for any reason One should strive for a dosage which will stimulate two to three bowel movements per day. This dosage may be two capsules a day or as little as one capsule daily. Remember to listen to your body or listen to your doctor that is the best advice. The IsaFlush formula comes in a fine white powder and is blended with bentonite, peppermint, hyssop and black walnut. Substances which are mildly acidic, such as lemon juice or apple cider can be taken as a follow up to enhance the ingestion of the IsaFlush formula. (The accelerator capsules for example – loaded with apple cider vinegar). These mildly acidic substances enhance the digestion of the magnesium oxide and bentonite. IsaFlush should not be taken with meals but it can be if you have a sensitive stomach. (That is, at least an hour before or after eating.) Since magnesium oxide helps to liquefy and bentonite also helps to liquefy toxic matter, it can be expected that the bowel movements will be loose. This is not and I repeat, is not diarrhea but the result of the hydrating effect of magnesium oxide within the formula. Most intense cleanses such as the Isagenix 9-day cleanse are from 7- 9 days, some milder ones can be as long as 30 days. After the initial intensive cleansing period, some people will find it beneficial to use IsaFlush as described above on a regular basis. A general principle is to take enough so as to stimulate and promote regularity. Because the magnesium oxide in the IsaFlush produces water and oxygen quite efficiently and has been proven safe, it is safe to use IsaFlush on a regular basis. People who use IsaFlush on a daily basis may need to take some extra potassium (90mg a day and an extra 500mg of calcium a day so please consult with your family doctor for advice.)
BENTONITE Bentonite is a form of healthy clay that has not only been used medicinally for centuries by indigenous peoples around the world, but has, in recent years, been increasingly prescribed by holistic health care practitioners as an effective internal cleanser. Bentonite clay is a wonderful health alternative, according to clay expert Ran Knishinsky in The Clay Cure (Healing Arts Press, 1998), “I have been eating dirt every day for the past six years.” Over 200 cultures eat some form of clay, the medicinal form of “dirt” as both a nutritional supplement and detoxifying agent, observes Knishinsky. It’s not just “dirt”! The name bentonite refers to clay first identified in cretaceous rocks in Fort Benton, Wyoming. Although bentonite deposits occur worldwide, many of the largest deposits of bentonite are found in the Great Plains area of North America. Bentonite is the commercial name for montmorillonite, the active mineral in most medicinal clays, which originate from weathered, volcanic ash. The name montmorillonite originates from the town of Montmorillon, France, where the medicinal mineral was first identified. Mineralogists and biochemists use the term smectite. VOLCANIC BENTONITE IS AN EFFECTIVE CLEANSER, especially when used in conjunction with magnesium oxide! They work synergistically together. Bentonite has been recognized as a powerful internal cleanser for centuries by native peoples around the world, including Indians from North and South America as well as Canada. Bentonite, once inside the gastrointestinal tract, is able to absorb toxic material and deliver mineral nutrients to where they have to go, says Knishinsky. Liquid clay once in the body is inert, very similar to fiber, which means it passes through the body undigested. Technically, the clay first helps to absorb toxins (heavy metals, free radicals, pesticides), then attracting them to its extensive surface area where they adhere like flies to sticky paper; then it absorbs those toxins, soaking them up like a sponge. There is an electrical aspect to bentonite’s binding properties and absorption of toxins. The clay’s minerals are negatively charged and the toxins tend to be positively charged; hence the clay works like a magnet drawing those undesirable toxins. Once hydrated (combined with water), bentonite has an enormous surface area that can be measured in acres. One single quart can have a total surface area of 960 square yards or 12 American football fields. Bentonite has a massive number of tiny particles, with negative electrical charges on their flat surfaces and positive charges on their edges. When bentonite absorbs water it swells, it is then stretched open like a porous sponge; the toxins are attracted into these spaces by electrical attraction and bound. (According to the Canadian Journal of Microbiology (31 [1985], 50-53), bentonite can help to absorb pathogenic viruses, molds, and pesticides as well as herbicides including Paraquat and Roundup). The clay is eventually eliminated from the body with all those undesirable toxins bound to its multiple surfaces. According to Knishinsky, benefits reported by people using liquid clay for a period of two to four weeks include: improved intestinal regularity; improved relief from chronic constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, as well as improved relief from ulcers; a surge in physical and mental energy; clearer complexion; brighter, whiter eyes; enhanced alertness; emotional uplift; improved tissues and gums; and increased resistance to infections. “Bentonite works on the entire human organism. No part of the body is left untouched by its healing energies,” he notes. Frederic Damrau, M.D., in 1961 undertook a very profound and well publicized study (Medical Annals of the District of Columbia) established clearly that bentonite can suppress diarrhea. When 35 individuals (average age 51) suffering from diarrhea took one tablespoons of bentonite in distilled water daily, the diarrhea was relieved in 97% (34 of the 35 patients) in 3.8 days, regardless of the original cause of the problem (allergies, virus infection, spastic colitis, or food poisoning). According to Dr. Damrau, bentonite is “safe and highly effective.” Knishinsky’s research suggests that the regular intake of clay can produce other benefits including the control o avoidance of parasite in the intestines, allergy and hay fever as well as the control of anemia and acne symptoms. For example, bentonite helps anemia because it contains both types of dietary iron (ferrous and ferric) in an easily assimilated form; it reduces discomfort from allergies by quickly helping control allergens that would otherwise produce allergic reactions; and it helps to reduces heartburn and indigestion by absorbing excess stomach acids. Bentonite is highly alkaline! Bentonite’s forte is probably its role as a general internal detoxifier and cleansing agent. It works by helping to cleansing the lining of the colon similar to fiber. As the colon becomes cleaner, its ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients increases substantially, making the naturally occurring minerals even more bioavailable, thus providing you with more energy. Wow! Bentonite contains 71 trace and ultra-trace minerals, including many that are probably unknown to most consumers, such as ruthenium, tellurium, and thulium. Trace minerals enable the body to absorb many more nutrients, “They are the catalysts and bonding agents in and between you and food,” Perhaps the very best Bentonite Minerals in the world are derived from ancient seabed formations in Utah; according to geologists, the clay formed there when a layer of volcanic ash fell into what was, long ago, an inland sea. As the ash filtered through the seawater, it collected pure minerals from the water, forming a layer of highly mineralized and ionic clay,” It is this Bentonite that you find in IsaFlush. The best way to take bentonite is on an empty stomach or at least an hour before or after a meal or immediately before sleeping at night, says Knishinsky. Typically, bentoniteis available as a thick tasteless, pale-grey gel, but it also comes as a fine concentrated powder that is encapsulated.
HYSSOP Hyssop has been well researched for many years. Because of its strong smell, Hyssop has a history of use as a cleansing, alkalizing and detoxifying herb. Research has shown that Hyssop contains rosmarinic and caffeic acids along with pinanones, betapinene, limonene, pinocamphone, and isopinocamphone that work synergistically with magnesium oxide and has well health building activity.
PEPPERMINT EXTRACT Most people do not know that peppermint has menthol, as its active ingredient. In fact it is a fantastic source of menthol. Menthol helps ease diarrhea, headaches and colic in babies and helps to soothe and pacify the intestinal tract of adults. Peppermint also contains a rich source of B vitamins, calcium, and potassium and is a great addition to any alkalizing and cleansing formula. Peppermint’s essential oil menthol is known to promote efficient digestion, elimination and it also helps one to avoid gallstones and kidney stones. Peppermint soothes the stomach lining relieving helping to relieve stomach cramps, especially while cleansing. The B vitamins in menthol help improve concentration, memory and performance in the brain and nerves while at the same time helping to control stress. (WEB-MD - 1098-23 ALCA).
BLACK WALNUT Black Walnut is also known by the genus name "Juglans" or "jovis glans" means "Jupiter's nut." Mythology tells us that the 'gods' residing on earth lived off Walnuts. Because Walnuts are similar to the shape of the human brain, they were historically thought to benefit the brain. Furthermore, to Chinese and Ayurvedic medical practitioners, black walnuts were regarded as a kidney and liver tonic, which makes absolute sense as they consider the brain to be governed by the kidneys and the liver. The research is overwhelming now and this research has proven that walnuts also have wonderful stress relieving qualities due to their aphrodisiac benefits. Black Walnuts have been used for centuries to expel various kinds of intestinal parasites. American Indian tribes have used and still use walnuts for this purpose. A botanical taken to control parasites is technically called a "vermifuge." The nuts, leaves and bark of the Black Walnut tree offer many vermifuge benefits. Black Walnut is a rich source of naturally occurring iodine and trace minerals. It also contains linolenic acid and vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid. Taken internally, Black Walnut helps to relieve constipation, nausea, stress and is very helpful in digestion. The organic iodine in black walnuts acts as co-factor to help with the absorption of calcium, magnesium and also bentonite and is a very helpful food for the thyroid. The high tannin content of the nuts is primarily responsible for its anthelmintic property, although other constituents such as juglandin, juglone and juglandic acid. It is well known that Black Walnut may help to super energize the blood. Black Walnut is also used to help balance sugar and control excessive toxins and fatty materials in the body. This is very important while cleansing.
CITRIC ACID Due to the digestive qualities of citric acid, symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, bloating and belching are reduced significantly. The bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently thus helping to control constipation and diarrhea. Citric acid is a wonderful stimulant for the liver and is a well known dissolvent of uric acid and other poisons and helps to liquefy the bile. Sufferers of joint pain can benefit by taking citric acid. We find that the citric acid contains certain elements which will help stimulate a healthy system and keep that system healthy and well. As a food it will help to nourish the brain and nerve cells. Citric acid is important in helping with the absorption of both magnesium and bentonite.
